My "Grown up" Job

As my sweet new friend put it, "we have started our grown up jobs now!" This last Friday marks the first "official day" of my new job with the United States Air Force and I hope to save the country while there in cubicle land.

After taking "the Oath" of the American Air Force we began our strenuous days of training, lecturing and endless conditioning to prepare us all for the Base world. My group consisted of about 20 co-ops in addition to myself and everyone else was retired military with our ages ranging from 20 to the ripe ole age of 70.
Finally, seven days later, we 'graduated' on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 and left the gate that day feeling proud and accomplished while proudly displaying our new shiny Air Force pin. It was hardly a diploma, yet, I wore with American pride and sought to conquer my duties with ambition!

The following day I walked into an old nasty building that I would now call *gulp* my work home and reality set in as I sat at my new cubicle with no earthly idea of how to carry out my assigned duties. I only wish I had been able to contemplate these new duties all day, however, I was not so fortunate.

I was soon led to my new co-worker's cubicle, where I resided all day being bored with monotonous details of which I had no recollection. About four and a half hours after my arrival I was rescued by a gentleman that sarcastically reminded my trainer that a lunch break was customary. Hoping to now escape to my SmartOne lunchable, my trainer crushed my spirits by insisting I have a tour of the 3 lunch areas on the other side of the building. After reluctantly agreeing, I was able to eat about 45min. later and tried to fit in a little studying for a test I had later that night.

By the time 4:30 rolled around I had been trained on every aspect of worker's compensation, the history of the Air Force and a full briefing of my trainer's life in the military. Needless to say, I have never been so exhausted from boredom in my life.

Monday will mark my second day and despite my first day's experience I have high hopes that the day will be brighter and present a new world of worker's compensation. Of course, I would just be happy to eat lunch on time...so either will do! :)
