The Mercy of the Lord

Daniel 9:18

"Oh my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name; for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies."

As I sat in disappointment with the t.v. before me, the Lord gave me this verse last night. I have fought against my bitter and defeated spirit with a positive outlook that could only come from the Lord. I will admit, I was angry last night and allowed myself to be depressed and a bit overwhelmed at the blindness of our country; however, the Lord has given me a peace this morning.

Whether you agree with my republican views or not, I feel we can all agree that we have taken part in the current condition of our country. The issues and views our nation faces can not be blamed solely on "the democrats" or nonbelievers, but rather us Christians that have not done our part to spread the Word.

We have gotten so complacent thinking we could simply sit back and relax and feel that just so nothing "major" is happening in our own immediate circle then we are o.k. Regardless of our President and his proclaimed beliefs, our country has been in dire need of Jesus for many years now. We have been putting our faith in an imperfect man instead of on God.

I did not vote for Barack Obama, for many reasons that I will not begin to address; and although his presence in the White House places a fear in my heart that I have never known, I trust that my God is far more powerful than any man or government. However, I am not saying this is my license to sit back and relax--we have our work cut out for us! Our new 'president elect' has re-kindled a fire in my heart that I should have had long ago. I have a passion to fight against the immorality in this country and in my own town, a new-found desire to stand for what allows me to believe how I wish and speak what I feel.

What I had foreseen as a mistake and unwise decision, may be the best thing that has happened to the Christians of this country. God longs to be present in our lives and hearts, not just our churches. Well, we all know where we go when we are afraid...mhmm.

"Well God, you have my attention, now what do I do?" This brings me again to Daniel 9, and reminds me that unless my heart is focused on the Lord and constantly aware of his mercy in my life, I can not accomplish the work of my Jesus. So join me! Leave your disheartened spirit at the alter and stop blaming Obama for the mistakes of Christians. It's time to focus on God; not the White House!

Lord forgive us and "incline thine ear" to hear our praises unto you!!!

Excellent Brittany, you are very right about this matter. Thank God for your abilitiy (spiritual maturity)to recognize what you have about this election. There are many adults that don't even grasp this concept. My flip book devotional said....Lord, I surrender any fear and anger in me over the things I see happening in my nation today. May these things I see provoke me to pray, rather than to criticize, complain, or to withdraw in fear.

May I recommend www.citizenlink.org to keep abreast of what is going on in the political realm. It is brief, but informative. It also gives you opportunities to take action. A great site. Check out the Merry Tossmas too : ), within that site. Also www.secureourdream.com, Joe the Plumbers site is a great forum to discuss ways to be heard. Yes, we just have to get involved and stay involved as well as pray!
